How to Revert a Chromebook to an Older Version of Chrome OS

Chromebook

Chrome OS is frequently bug-free and gives a faultless experience, whether you use Linux on your Chromebook or try to run Windows apps on Chromebooks. I’ve even used my Chromebook to play Steam games and enabled developer mode on Chrome OS to sideload apps, with no problems. However, with the most recent update, my Wi-Fi has completely ceased working. I have no option but to revert Chrome OS on my Chromebook to an older version in this scenario. If you’re having problems, follow our instructions to downgrade Chrome OS to a previous version.

  1. Next, use the search box at the top of the Settings screen to look for “powerwash.” Open the “Powerwash” search result.

  1. Click “Reset” once you’ve arrived. Because this will completely reset your Chromebook, make a backup of any important files before proceeding.

  1. Finally, select “Restart,” and your Chromebook will restart.

  1. A Powerwash window should appear on the login screen a few moments after the reboot. Click “Powerwash” to reset your Chromebook.

  1. Your Chromebook will reboot after a few minutes of this process. The Welcome screen will now appear. Because the rewind phase has not yet been completed, do not proceed with your Google account at this time.

  1. On the Welcome screen, press “Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R” to bring up another Powerwash prompt. Resetting your smartphone will not assist you in downgrading. Instead, move on to the next stage.

8. On the Powerwash screen, press “Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R” again, and the “Powerwash and revert” option should appear this time. It will allow you to revert an older version of Chrome OS on your Chromebook. When you click it, “Powerwash and Revert” will display.

  1. It will take a few minutes for the downgrade to complete, so be patient. After that, you’ll be sent to the Welcome screen, where you can open in with your Google account.

10. Finally, open Settings on your Chromebook to see if you’ve successfully restored Chrome OS to an older version. That’s how you go back to an earlier version of Chrome OS.
